The President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, urged the leaders of the Church to involve in the preparations of the referendum process.
The statement comes as the Sudan Catholic Bishop’s Conference (SCBC) meet in Juba to deliberate on the forthcoming Referendum as the top agenda.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the president, Mr. Costa Manibe, GoSS Minister for Presidential Affairs, said Mr. Kiir wanted Church leaders to educate the communities on the process of the Referendum.
Mr. Kiir said the Church should advocate for the process of a referendum that is free, fair and credible.
He added that the Church will play a vital role for the success of the referendum, by appealing to all stakeholders to accept the results.
Mr. Manibe said that President Kiir would attend in person the closure of the plenary of the Catholic Bishops on July 22.
