RUMBEK YOUTH MARCH FOR SEPARATION

Hundreds of Youth yesterday spearheaded a peaceful demonstration in Rumbek town, advocating for separation at the referendum scheduled for January 2011.
The jubilant youth marched through the streets of Rumbek town, singing and waving placards and banners bearing messages such as “YES FOR SEPARATION AND NO FOR UNITY”; “BYE BYE SHARIA LAW.

The peaceful march was organized by the office of SPLM Youth League in Lakes State.

Mr. Dhieu Weltakpiny Deng is the Chairman of SPLM Youth League in Lakes State.
He told Good News Radio that the demonstration aimed at sensitizing the masses about the Referendum, adding that there will be similar marches in the coming months until the Referendum takes place.

Mr. Dhieu further said that although the Referendum will see Southern Sudanese voting for Unity or Separation, the SPLM Youth League is advocating for Separation, adding that the awareness program will be carried out in all the eight Counties of Lakes State.

Mr. Dhieu also revealed that his office has sent about 100 youth in Juba to train on the Referendum, adding that the trained youth will return to carry out civic education focusing on the Referendum.

Ms Rose Agar, a student of Rumbek Senior Secondary School, said she supports the separation of the South from the North, explaining that it will root out the possibility of Sharia Law in Southern Sudan.

The 9th of every month has been earmarked for peaceful demonstrations in all the ten States of Southern Sudan leading to the Referendum scheduled for January 2011.
