United Nation Environment Programme UNEP will plant about one million trees in southern Sudan over the next two weeks.
The programme is one of the already started plans of UNEP “Keep Juba Green” campaign launched last month in Juba.
UNEP said about five hundred thousand tress would be planted in Juba alone, AP reported.
Keep Juba Green is part of a UN commitment to plant one million trees across Southern Sudan in 2010 and 2011.
The Project is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and Environment, the Directorate of Forestry of Central Equatoria State and UNEP.
The campaign will engage community groups, schools and organizations to plant twenty three different tree species in an effort to draw attention to the need for reforestation and improved forest management in South Sudan.
