A Peace conference bringing together four County Commissioners, Executive and Paramount Chiefs, and cattle camp youth leaders, all from Rumbek Central, Rumbek East, Rumbek North and Cueibet Counties was convened yesterday in Rumbek.

Close to 200 participants are attending the conference. Mr. David Marial Gumke is the Commissioner of Rumbek East County. He told Good News Radio that the meeting focused on insecurity in the counties, revealing that matters to be discussed will include the rampant killing cattle raiding and theft in the four counties represented.

The Commissioner also said that members of parliament from the four Counties will be present at the conference as observers, adding that representatives from UNMIS and leaders of the youth in the cattle camps are other stakeholders at the conference.

Mr. Marial Gumke further said that the conference aims at formulating a law to govern cattle theft and random killing, explaining that the meeting is convened to seek the views of the community leaders to assist the government in protecting citizens.

Insecurity, usually propagated by the practice of revenge, is a key concern for the inhabitants of Lakes State. Currently, tension is high in Rumbek East County where, on Sunday a man who was cultivating was attacked and killed.
