MEDIA APPLAUDED FOR ROLE IN CIVIC AND VOTER EDUCATION

Representatives from various organizations involved in civic and voter education in Lakes State applauded the media particularly the radio for its role in civic and voter education.

The civic and voter education stakeholders said that the media represented the most effective channel of reaching out to the people, explaining that it is easily accessible, and the use of local languages made it powerful.

James Mabor Ekau, a civic and voter educator from Yirol West County, said that his local community profited a lot from the two FM radios in Lakes State, adding that the radios played an instrumental role during the elections.

Rosa Nyidier from the Catholic Women Association said she received encouragement from the civic and voter education evaluation workshop, adding that she will go ahead to educate others in preparation for the referendum.

The stakeholders suggested that partners involved in civic and voter education team up, sharing activities, plans, expertise, explaining that this would be more effective than each organization going alone.

The civic and voter education stakeholders suggested that local languages be included in the print media.

Lakes State is served by three FM radios: state-owned Radio Rumbek, Catholic Good News Radio UN’s and Miraya FM.
