Authorities in Western Equatoria state said five bodies of people abducted by Ugandan rebels on the Yambio-Maridi road have been recovered.

Director of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Lexon Wari, said the bodies were found at Bangasu Payam, 33 miles from Yambio, and were immediately taken to the mortuary, Miraya FM reported.

Mr. Wari explained that citizens in the area moved to Bangasu town for fear of further attacks by Lords’ Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.

The UN said LRA killed thousands and displaced hundreds of civilians in Western Equatoria state in the last two years.
