An official has called upon parents and guardians to enrol their girls in school to control the rate of gender based violence that commonly affects women.
Jackline Novello, Acting Director of Gender said Gender Based Violence in GoSS Ministry for Gender, Child and Social Welfare, told SCR News that violence against girls and women is rampant due to lack of education.Ms. Novello noted that girls should be sent to school to prepare they future to prevent gender based violence.
She added that poverty was another reason for aggression against women.
Ms. Novello noted that gender awareness was vital to control gender based violence.
She added that people abused the rights of others, especially of girls and women, because they were not aware of them.
Ms. Novella explained that South Sudan government created gender focal points in all ministries so that the public could understand better gender violence related issues.
