A group of about 20 street boys clashed with a businessman after one of their colleagues was severely beaten by the trader.

The incident took place yesterday in Rumbek after Khemis Jackson beat up one kid accusing him of stealing beer being offloaded from a truck, Good News Radio reported.

Other street kids mobilized to defend the colleague and attacked Mr. Khemis with sticks and stones before the police intervened.

Before being dragged to the police station, Mr. Khemis said it was not the first time street kids stole beer from him.

Sebit Majak, a street kid involved in the clashes, said his colleague did not steal beer but was drunk.

Mr. Majak said the kids attacked the Darfuri trader because their innocent brother was beaten until he passed out.

He called on Lakes State Governor to give the kids a good place anywhere in town to be protected from harassment.

The number of street kids in Rumbek is on the rise, and suitable measures need to be taken to help them out of the streets.
