Recent clashes between Dinka and Jur communities left many injured and thousands homeless.
Fierce fighting involving youths from Kok-Dinka from Lakes state against Jur from Western Equatoria started last Thursday resulting in many injuries and heavy displacement.Kok youths from Yirol West and Rumbek East Counties reportedly launched an attack on Kokori Village of Mvolo County.
The village remained deserted, houses and shops in Kokori payam were looted and thousands of Jur went into hiding in the bushes North of Mvolo.
Lakes State Commissioner of Police, Brigadier Chol Alaak Ajak, told Good News Radio that the clashes were most fierce on Saturday, adding that they were triggered by a misunderstanding between two youths.
Mr. Alaak said that security forces were deployed, the Commissioner of Yirol West visited the scene of the clashes, and calm was restored.
Sources told Good News Radio that one person was confirmed dead at Kokori village, a claim Mr. Alaak said he heard about.
He added that he was not sure that automatic arms were used during the clashes.
Mr. Alaak explained that a group of investigators from Rumbek Police Headquarters were sent out to probe the clashes.
Unconfirmed reports say at least five thousand people were displaced by the fighting.
Mvolo County Commissioner appealed for humanitarian assistance on behalf of the injured and displaced.
