Sudan may ask the United Nations to run the referendum on Abyei√É’s self determination after northern and southern leaders failed to appoint a commission.

Yasir Arman, SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Northern Sector, said SPLM and NCP leaders failed to agree on the members for the commission to organise the Abyei vote despite months of debate, Reuters reported.

Mr. Arman confirmed that the only way out was the United Nations.

He noted that the NCP failed to agree on the names seconded by SPLM.

Mr. Arman added that his party would submit a fresh set of names in a final attempt to reach agreement over the Abyei Referendum Commission.

An official from NCP said Mr. Arman was trying to increase political pressure.
