Authorities in South Sudan said that more than 330 thousand displaced people returned to the region since 2005.

Acting Chairperson for Southern Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) William Chan Achuil told the press this afternoon in Juba that the repatriated returnees were resettled in their places of origin.

Mr. Chan said the host communities benefited from the packages the UN High Commissioner for Refuges (UNHCR) provided to the returnees.

Mr. Chan said the UNHCR is planning to repatriate 4000 refugee from neighbouring countries before the end of October.

Mr. Chan said UNHCR, GoSS, WFP, IOM and other partners would repatriate 46 thousand IDPS to central Equatoria state before the end of August from other parts of the country.

Mr. Chan said the repatriation programme would start from Greater Equatoria, move to Greater Bahr el Ghazal and conclude in Upper Nile.

Mr. Chan made these statements in the context of the World Refugees Day celebrated today in Juba.
