The Southern army clashed with forces loyal to a defected militia leader a day after flushing him out of his hideout in Jonglei.

SPLA spokesman major general Kuol Deim Kuol said the army had since lost contact with its 35-strong search and reconnaissance team which fought George Athor’s forces on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

Mr. Deim said this latest attacks happen at Dier village, Khorfulus County, in Jonglie state.

He added that Mr. Athor is running with less than 30 soldiers who were his close relatives from the village.

Mr. Athor launched a rebellion after losing the governorship of Jonglei state in April elections, accusing the SPLM of rigging the vote.
