Juba prison police pledged to work hand and hand with human rights groups to follow cases of over 60 young prisoners detained in the institution many without trial.
Gabriel Matur, a Juba Central Prison administrator in charge of inmates, told SCR News today that human rights officials wanted to discuss the issue of many children detained for long time without a trial in order to speed up their processes.Mr. Matur added that the officials committed themselves to follow the juvenile inmates’ cases in the police and judiciary.
Mr. Matur said that the office of human rights and social welfare provided clothes, soap and balls to the children in prison.
He added that juvenile imamates should receive vocational training while in custody but the installations at Logo-Logo were not ready yet.
Mr. Matur explained that young offenders were kept together with political detainees in Juba Prison.
Young detainees are kept behind bars for long without charges and in many cases their parents do not know their whereabouts.
