Almost 1700 returnees based in Wau were given food for three months ahead of their resettlement in the region.

UN’s World Food Programme yesterday distributed food rations to 1680 spontaneous returnees scattered in different areas of Wau, in Western Bahr el Ghazal, SCR News correspondent reported.

About 280 families arrived in town coming from Khartoum, Egypt, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Aweil North and Raja.

The returnees were registered by a joint team constituted by the government, UN agencies and NGOs, during a survey that started in February 2010.

The food distribution took place at Wau stadium. The 90-day ration included cereals, oil and salt.
