The recounting of South Kordofan residents started well yesterday after the results from the 2008 Census were dismissed as non-representative.

SPLM youth league chairman in South Kordofan state, Mubarak Abdurrahman Ahmed, told SRS by phone from Kadugli that the census process started smoothly.

Mr. Mubarak says he was optimistic that the exercise would be a success although the new census was being conducted during the rainy season.

A Kadugli resident, Ashari al-Tayeb, said people were in their homes waiting for the enumerators since it was a public holiday.

South Kordofan is recounting its population after the SPLM rejected the April 2008 census results in the state.
