The just appointed foreign minister warned that any disagreement over the referendum results on south Sudan’s independence could lead to a new and bloodier civil war.

Ali Karti, described as a NCP hard liner, said yesterday lack of agreement on the results of the upcoming referendum could trigger a new war between north and south Sudan, AFP reported.

Mr. Karti predicted that a new war would be difficult and tough, different from the previous one because both sides had better military hardware.

The foreign minister said that the referendum should be held only after the north-south border was demarcated to establish where people lived and where natural resources were located.
