A group of countries that finance development in South Sudan held a meeting to plan their future in the post-referendum era and the collaboration with other donors expected to expand their action in the region after separation.

Michael Elmquist, head of the Joint Donor Team, told the press this morning in Juba that the six countries that make up the group discussed their future in South Sudan after the referendum and the nature of the relationship with other development partners like the European Union and the World Bank.

Mr. Elmquist explained that the six donor countries would continue a separate discussion this afternoon on their future in the region.

He added that the team would keep on supporting development in South Sudan after the referendum.

The six countries that make up the Joint Donor Team include Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The team is in south Sudan since 2006 working in partnership with the government.
