Water supply and sanitation services are an overwhelming problem in schools across south Sudan.

The alert comes from Ken Maskall, Chief of the WASH programme at the UNICEF ahead of the African Child Day that is celebrated tomorrow.

Mr. Maskall told SCR News that at least 20 percent of schools in south Sudan did not have adequate hygiene facilities.

He added that UNICF wants to provide better conditions especially for girls.

Mr. Maskall said the water and sanitation programme was long term and UNICEF would continue to provide what was necessary to improve hygiene in schools.

Mr. Maskall added that UNICEF was working on the water and sanitation at least in 40 schools in the south.
