The ministry of health organized a three-day planning workshop with the aim of controlling blindness in south Sudan.

The workshop was conducted under the theme of “Better district eye care through planning.”

Talking to SCR News, Dr. Wani Mena, director of Eye Services at Juba Teaching Hospital, said the participants were expect to produce a district eye plan that would enable them implement eye care at county and clinic levels.

Dr. Wani added that the plan would help tackle the high level of blindness in south Sudan, the highest in East Africa.

Dr. Wani explained that eye doctors were under training to enhance human resources in the eye unit.

He added that south Sudan had only a single eye doctor.
