The Central Bank said it was planning a series of strict measures to help support the Sudanese pound and fight inflation.

Central Bank governor Sabir Mohammad al-Hassan told Reuters yesterday that the second half of the year would see a turnaround from past expansionary policies that were designed to cope with the global economic slowdown which was now having less of an impact on Sudan.

Mr. al-Hassan earlier this month said the bank would inject more foreign currency into the market and tighten restrictions on black marketers, adding those measures would be enough to support the weakening pound.

In his latest statement, the governor said the Central Bank was now planning to review its monetary policy to head towards a policy of strictness.
