A senior NCP official claimed that there was no censorship going on in Khartoum as alleged by the media.
Speaking to SRS, Rabie Abdullaati said the accusations were meaningless.Dr. Abdullaati added that the measures taken against some journalists in the Ray Al-Shaab newspaper were due to the violation of the Press Act.
He explained that the newspaper did not abide by the regulations adding that whoever violates the law must be under its jurisdiction.
Last month, security agents arrested Hassan Al-Turabi, the leader of the Popular Congress Party, shutting down his paper Ray Al-Shaab Arabic daily and detaining three journalists.
The management of the pro-SPLM newspaper Ajras Al-Hurriya decided on Monday to stop publication until further notice, protesting against what they called serious censorship.
