Lakes State Police are hunting for four unknown gunmen who on Saturday reportedly killed a UN worker.

The four also looted a World Food Programme (WFP) vehicle delivering humanitarian assistance to Akot Payam, in Lakes State.

Rumbek Police Commissioner, Chol Alak Ajak, said the four gunmen raided the vehicle after it had stopped along the road due to a mechanical problem.

Mr. Chol added that one WFP worker was shot dead when he tried to resist.

The gunmen stole bags of rice from the vehicle and demanded money from the driver.

The WFP office in Rumbek lamented the incident and requested organized forces to ensure security in a county where acts of banditry often deterred drivers from accepting to transport humanitarian aid.
