A domestic group noted with concern a very slow start in the preparations for the referendum to take place until January 9, 2011.
Countdown to South Sudan Referendum (CSSR) director, Lokulenge Lole, told the press this morning in Juba that the referendum needed to be prepared on time to avoid mistakes that were witnessed during the elections.Mr. Lole asked the government to select a competent referendum commission to avoid the elections’ disorganization.
Mr. Lole called upon the international community to take an active role in the referendum from civic education to registration and the vote.
Mr. Lole added that the governments of national unity and south Sudan should speed up the demarcation of the border dividing the two regions.
