The president of the South Sudan returned to Juba this morning after talks with the U.S. vice president in Kenya.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit was in Nairobi for two days to discuss the referendum and the implementation of the remaining items of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement with the U.S. VP Joe Biden.The undersecretary at GoSS ministry of Presidential Affairs, Cirino Hiteng Ofuho, told journalists that the CPA implementation was the main topic for discussion since the U.S. was a guarantor of the agreement.
Dr. Hiteng said Mr. Kiir also met the president, the vice president and prime minister of Kenya over the CPA implementation.
He revealed that Mr. Kiir reiterated his commitment to ensure that the referendum was conducted on time.
Mr. Kiir made the 48-hour visit to Nairobi at the invitation of Mr. Biden who is in an African tour.
The U.S. VP flew today to South Africa for the opening of the World Cup that kicks off tomorrow in Johannesburg.
