CENTRAL EQUATORIA CHIEFS TO RECEIVE TRAINING ON GENDER VIOLENCE ISSUES

Central Equatoria ministry for gender affairs in partnership with the UN is planning to train traditional chiefs to handle cases of gender violence

Hellen Mursal Boro is the minister for Gender and Social Development in Central Equatoria state. She told SCR News that her office and the UN Gender office were planning to make hearings to find how local chiefs decided cases on gender violence in their respective areas.

Mrs. Mursal said after the hearings chiefs would be trained how deal with gender based violence issues.

Mrs. Mursal added that her ministry was targeting women issues because gender discrimination was rampant in south Sudan and particularly in Central Equatoria.

She explained that she wanted to make every minister in the state to understand the issues surrounding gender based violence and help her to implement her plan of action.

Mrs. Mursal said the chiefs would be collected from all the payams of Central Equatoria state to take part in the hearings and trainings.
