Over 600 students at Rumbek’s Senior Secondary School took part in a protest over classrooms shortage and lack of teachers and food.

The school’s headmaster Gabriel Malieny Marik told reporters that there were no classrooms to accommodate over 650 first-year students.

Mr. Marik added that Lakes state ministry of education did not inform the school administration about the number of students and enrolled new students without consulting the school management.

The headmaster said the administration expected advice from the ministry on how to deal with this year’s alarming intake since the school had capacity for a maximum of 250 students.

Student Garnob Makur said school management was weak and there was no food for students.
