A Kenyan bank that started operating in South Sudan last year plans to open a branch in Yei bringing to three the number of outlets in the region.

The Equity Bank Group has already two operating branches in Suke Juba and Malakia, both in the capital of South Sudan.

Paul Gitahi, Equity Executive Director, told SCR News that Yei was chosen due to its location connecting south Sudan’s main towns.

Mr. Gitahi added that Yambio, Wau, Malakal, Bor and Torit would come next after the Yei branch was established.

He said that Equity wanted to be present in the ten states of South Sudan within two years.

Mr. Gitahi added that Equity would also start operating two Automatic Teller Machines known as ATMs in Juba at the ministries and the beverages factory.
