EASTERN EQUATORIA MPS CONDEMN ROAD ATTACKS

Members of Eastern Equatoria Assembly condemned the recent road attacks in the state that killed at least four people.

Last Friday, two civilians and one soldier were killed in two separate incidents near Idolu Bridge along the Torit-Kapoeta road, Emmanuel Radio reported.

On Saturday, the assailants exchanged fire with security personnel deployed in the area. One criminal was killed and half a dozen civilians injured in the cross-fire.

Eastern Equatoria Deputy Speaker Paul Napwon said in a statement that the state lawmakers were shocked and in sorrow over the incidents that killed a pregnant woman in front of her two shocked young children.

Mr. Napwon identified the deceased woman as a cousin of Catholic Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek of Torit.

He added that the lawmakers condemned the recent planting of landmines along Torit-Imatong roads

Mr. Napwon said roads in eastern Equatoria were safe again.

He added that the parliamentarians had full confidence on the governor, security forces and the population who elected them to keep Eastern Equatoria at peace.
