The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek plans to hand in to the bishop of Wau some missions it looked after during the years of war.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek told Good News Radio that the missions of Nyamlel and Gordhim would be returned to Wau Diocese until August.

Bishop Mazzolari described the two places as “great missions” in “immense areas”.

Bishop Mazzolari added that he planned to visit the two missions of Gordhim and Nyamlel in preparation for the handing over.

He said visits would be what he described as the goodbye for the bishop of Rumbek to the missionaries ministering in the two missions.

Gordhim Mission is served by Apostles of Jesus and Sacred Heart Sisters while Nyamlel is staffed by a Comboni missionary and the Sisters of Our Lady of Sacred Heart from Indonesia.

The handing over of the Gordhim and Nyamlel missions to Wau diocese reduces considerably the territory covered by the Catholic diocese of Rumbek.
