The president of the Government of Southern Sudan left for Nairobi this morning to discuss the full implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, including the referendum, with the U.S. vice president.

GoSS caretaker minister for Presidential Affairs, Luka Biong, told journalists at Juba International Airport that talks between Salva Kiir Mayardit and Joe Biden would focus on CPA issues.

Dr. Biong explained that this was the first time that Mr. Kiir met a member of the new U.S. administration.

Dr. Biong revealed that President Kiir would insist that the referendum should be conducted in the exact time and the formation of the referendum commissions done immediately.

He added that the north-south border demarcation was among the issues to be discussed.

Dr. Biong said Mr. Kiir would request financial assistance from the U.S. administration to support his new government in offering better services to the population of South Sudan.
