A UN official called upon south Sudan women to be brave and unite ahead of the forthcoming referendum.

UN deputy resident humanitarian coordinator Lise Grande addressed women during a one-day regional forum on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 review.

Ms. Grande said women should continue to be brave and remain united so that the final year of transition would bring south Sudan where it needed to be.

Ms. Grande affirmed that women in South Sudan were leading in three major and critical areas of peace, nation and state building.

Ms. Grande mentioned that people, who violated the rights of women, needed to be held to account.
