The Ugandan president said he did not invite his Sudanese counterpart to an African Union summit in Kampala next month because Omar Hassan al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court.

Yoweri Museveni made the disclosure on Friday while meeting with ICC president Sang-Hung Song, who is in Kampala for the court’s ongoing review conference.

Mr. Museveni noted that Sudan is free to send other government representatives to the summit.

Yesterday the Sudanese government asked for an apology from the Ugandan government for president Musaveni’s comments.

GoNU foreign ministry spokesman Moawia Osman Khalid said his government was calling on Uganda to withdraw what he called an improper statement and to make an open apology to the Sudanese people.
