Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly approved today the salaries scale for all constitutional post holders in South Sudan, reducing the volume of expenses with wages and allowances.

The Emoluments and Privileges of Constitutional Post Holders and Members of Legislative Assemblies Bill 2010 includes a well defined monthly salary scale with accommodation, travel and sitting allowances and other privileges for all post holders.

Steve Ajong’no, SPLM MP from Northern Bahr el Ghazal, told SCR News that the total amount of salaries was reduced due to lack of money.

Mr. Ajong’no, added that the re-adjustment of wages was to address issues of health, education and irregular salaries in the different sectors within the government.

He explained that the scale had to add new office holders who were not part of the previous bill passed earlier in the year.

The new salary bill aims at reducing unnecessary government expenditure to be used for the welfare of the citizens.

GoSS president is at the top of the scale receiving a monthly salary of 15 thousand Sudanese pounds plus 10 thousand pounds for accommodation allowances.

The members of state assemblies are at the other end with a salary of 4000 pounds plus 2000 for accommodation, 500 for transports and 450 for seating allowances.
