Eastern Equatoria State did not commemorate this year’s World Environment Day due to financial constraints.
The World Environment day is observed every year on June 5 to raise awareness to protect endangered species and ecological systems.Emilio Wilson Ellack, Director of Environment in Eastern Equatoria, told Emmanuel Radio that his department did not have money to could not organize the event because it finished during the elections campaigns.
Mr. Ellack said this year’s theme for the event was “Many species, one planet, one future.”
Mr. Ellack said people cannot live without nature which is the beauty of the surroundings.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his World Environment Day message warned that thousands of species ranging from frogs to gorillas, huge plants to tiny insects were in jeopardy.
