Women parliamentarians from different state assemblies spelled out the reasons that brought them into politics.

Talking to SCR News, some women MPs cited domestic violence, corruption, failure to address the 25 percent affirmative action and lack of support for women’s businesses and groups as reasons that brought them to power.

Other Women MPs mentioned the need to address social injustices created by cultural beliefs together with lack of sanitation and water among other issues affecting voiceless women.

The women leaders made these comments during a training workshop on women’s participation in peace building that took place in Juba.

The participants called upon the GoSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit to honour his commitment to increase women’s share in governance to 30 percent.
