St. Kizito Parish in Munuki. Juba, celebrated yesterday Uganda Martyrs day under their patron St. Kizito and the twenty third anniversary of the opening of their parish.
The Eucharistic celebration, presided by Monsignor Aquilino Wani Lopu representing the archbishop of Juba, was attended by a great crowd together with a number of priests and religious brothers and sisters, Bakhita Radio reported.Mgr. Wani called on the faithful of Saint Kizito to follow the example of the Uganda Martyrs.
He said the martyrs were able to resist the promptings of the king and chose to obey God who is the giver of life.
Mgr. Wani stated that the celebration of Uganda Martyrs was of great importance because it gave the faithful courage like that of the Uganda Martyrs.
The president of the celebration traced back the history of church and the missionaries who came to southern Sudan through Khartoum and Uganda.
Mgr. Wani commended the work carried out in the Sudanese missions of Lowa, Torit, and Isoke opened by missionaries from Northern Uganda.
He said even Juba profited from the experience of missionary proceeding from Uganda.
Mgr. Wani called the faithful of St. Kizito to imitate the Martyrs of Uganda and to learn the meaning of true martyrdom for and in Christ.
During the celebration, Fr. Dennis Lodu Leandro was introduced to the faithful as the St. Kizito’s new assistant parish priest.
Fr. Lodu was ordained on April 25.
