Over 20 heavy vehicles were stuck on the Renk ÐMalakal highway due to heavy rains and mud.

Many buses coming from Khartoum stayed on the road for more than two days without reaching their destination due to the rain, Voice of Love Radio reported.

Difficult travelling added on to tribal insecurity in the area.

Upper Nile State, which is poorly connected to the rest of the south, uses the Renk- Malakal seasonal road to connect it with Khartoum.

Last year, the Government of Southern Sudan signed an agreement with a Chinese company to upgrade the Renk-Malakal road but the works are far from finishing.
