Last weekend clashes between SPLA forces and civilians in Cueibet County, Lakes State, claimed six lives and left 24 wounded.

Lakes Police Commissioner Brigadier Chol Alaak Ajak told Good News Radio that three civilians and three soldiers died during the fighting while seven troops and 17 civilians were injured.

Mr. Chol added the fighting started due to a disagreement between SPLA personnel and an armed civilian at Largum cattle camp.

The Police Commissioner said the situation was calm since Sunday.

He added that the SPLA withdrew to Barghel barracks and police was put in place to avoid retaliation attacks and arrest the offenders.

There have been numerous incidences of fatal clashes between the SPLA forces and the civilian population in Lakes State.

The Saturday clashes in Cueibet reveal that the process of disarmament was not successful yet.
