Europe should engage Sudan ahead of the referendum on independence despite the International Criminal Court arrest warrant for the Sudanese.

This is the thesis of Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere who said his country supported the ICC but that Sudan should be a foreign policy priority for the international community in the run up to the referendum.

Mr. Stoere added that other European countries should engage to support the referendum and avoid letting the ICC issue cripple political efforts to support a solution to the north-south issue.
