The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek started a programme targeting teachers involved in a special education course called Accelerated Learning Program initiated in some schools.
The in-service workshops were organized by the education department of the Diocese.Philip Gachube is the Teacher Trainer for Rumbek Diocese. He told Good News Radio that the series of workshops started yesterday in Mapuordit primary school and would conclude in Marial-Lou on June 23 after covering Agangrial Primary School, Rumbek Primary School and Loreto Secondary School.
Vincent Mapesa, a senior teacher in the Diocese of Rumbek and a facilitator at the training, explained that the Accelerated Learning Programme brought on board children, adolescents and adults who did not have a formal primary education.
Mr. Mapesa said the workshops aimed at giving teachers involved in the programme skills on how to teach, including guidance in lesson planning.
Mr. Mapesa urged those who did not go to school to seize this chance and make use of the opportunity offered by the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
Accelerated Learning Programme was adapted to help reduce the level of illiteracy in Southern Sudan which is arguably one of the highest in the world.
