The first democratically elected Governor of Lakes State took the oath of office yesterday at the State Legislative Assembly in Rumbek.
The swearing in of Chol Tong Mayay was witnessed by a huge and jubilant crowd, Good News Radio reported.Eng. Tong promised to carry out his duties and responsibilities diligently and with honesty.
The new governor promised to ensure due consultation in order to foster development for all people of Lakes State.
Outgoing governor Telar Ring Deng advised Eng. Tong to put first interests of the people.
Mr. Telar also asked the new governor to form the cabinet according to merit.
He urged the new executive to work collectively for the betterment of the people of Lakes State.
Mr. Tong won the elections with landslide victory of nearly 94 percent.
