Oil concessions within the Bome-Jonglei Landscape area are affecting wildlife through improper disposal of toxic wastes.

Minasona Lero Peter is director of protected area management in Bome-Jonglei Landscape. He told SCR News that the water used during drilling can be lethal to both wildlife and humans.

Mr. Lero said that the roads built by the oil companies are too high, becoming a barrier for wildlife and causing extensive floods.

Mr. Lero advised the oil companies to cooperate with the ministry of Wildlife and keep the government updated on their drilling activities.

Mr. Lero said the Zeraf Game Reserve is the most affected area by oil exploration activities.

He added that the French Total Company will soon start drilling for crude in the Boma National Park.
