Participants at workshop on protected areas agreed to use a multi-sector planning approach like development of infrastructure and agriculture to protect wildlife in south Sudan.

Officials from ministries of Wildlife, Agriculture and Animal Resources together with the Wildlife Conservation Society and USAID have been meeting in technical planning workshop to come up with resolutions to protect the landscape.

John Kanisio, chairman of the planning committee, told SCR News that the landscape can be protected by different government and civil society sectors working together to identify the needs of the landscape beneficiaries.

Dr. Kanisio said the work plan will be put into practice straightaway and it takes at least two or three years to implement.

Enforcement of the laws protecting wildlife is among the resolutions.

Dr. Kanisio admitted that there is an anticipated number of challenges to be faced during the implementation of the work plan.

He called upon all stakeholders and the members of the community to cooperate during the implementation of the conservation project.
