NORWEGIAN GOVERNMENT TO SPONSOR FOUR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The Norwegian Government in collaboration with the University of Juba sponsors four students to learn library and information sciences in Uganda.

The scholarship is done under the project “Capacity building in south Sudan: Educating Librarians for the future”, from the Norwegian government.

Talking to SCR News, Dr. John Akech, programme coordinator of the scholarship project, said the sponsoring aims at revitalizing library studies in South Sudan.

Mr. Akech added that the programme is done in collaboration and other South Sudanese and Norwegian Universities.

Mr. Akech explained that the library department in the University of is small while the East African School of Library Science in Makerere University the best option due to its excellence.

The project aims also at empowering women and allows them to enter into higher education employment.

Today fourteen candidates were interviewed but only four will be selected.

Three will do a bachelor degree in Library Studies while the fourth will do a master.
