LAKES STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBERS TAKE OATH OF OFFICE

The first elected Lakes State Assembly convened yesterday for its members to take their oath of office and elect the house speaker, his deputy and the Controller of the House.

The caretaker governor and his deputy, the governor-elect and some members serving in the government ministries witnessed the swearing in ceremony.

The House members unanimously elected John Marik Makur speaker and Nhial Enock Chaoc deputy speaker.

The responsibility of controlling the House business was given to Isaac Makur Buoc.

Speaker Marik thanked the entire House for the confidence they had on him.

He promised to keep the unity of the House, adding that he will cooperate with the State executive and judiciary, as laid down in the Interim State Constitution.

Mr. Marik added that he would facilitate the establishment of good governance in the State.

Lakes State Assembly has a total of 48 members, 46 are SPLM while the other two are independent.
