Insecurity in south Sudan contributed to the worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
This is the assessment of Abdelbagi al-Jeilani, state minister of humanitarian affairs, who said 40 percent of southerners suffered from humanitarian problems.Dr. al-Jeilani pointed out three reasons behind the crisis: instability and inter-tribal fighting in Jonglei, Bahr el-Ghazal, Unity and Lakes state and the LRA presence in Western Equatoria; delay in the rains that do not allow farmers to plant; and the movement of displaced people.
He added that the all three situations combined created a humanitarian tragedy in south Sudan.
Dr. Al-Jeilani called on the international community to provide food to both south Sudan and Darfur.
