Commercial poaching is destroying the wildlife of south Sudan and the authorities do not have the means to face the challenge of big organizations involved in the commerce of dry wild meat.

GoSS minister of Wild Life, Agnes Poni Lukudu, told SCR News that many commercial hunters go out for poaching during the dry season, including elephants, with machines guns.

Ms. Lukudu added that commercial poaching poses a big challenge to her ministry since wild life police do not have the means to face poachers.

Ms. Lukudu added that some of the commercial poachers are contracted by big people who supply them with machine guns.

She appealed to poachers to stop their selfish pursuit in order to promote tourism that brings development for all.

Ms. Lukudu explained that her ministry is training officers to protect wild life.

She added that Wild Life Police received two bullet proof vehicles for patrolling and control commercial poaching.

Ms. Lukudu remained that commercial poaching is illegal and whoever is caught in the act shall be detained and prosecuted.
