This appeal was made by Margaret Orik Obonyo, a Correction Advisor working with UNMIS in Rumbek, Lakes State.
Ms. Obonyo told Good News Radio that the prison facilities need to be made better for human living.
She added that she would appreciate if expectant prisoners and mothers with children had a space for themselves apart from prisoners.
Ms. Obonyo appealed to NGOs to help roof a wall structure at Rumbek prison, explaining that the institution alone could not afford the renovation costs and other demands to improve the facility.
Ms. Obonyo urged counsellors and people with different relevant skills to help rehabilitating prisoners.
Rumbek Central prison inmates are visited every Sunday by a pastoral team from the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
