A senior church official urged the leading political parties to make an agreement on the sharing of oil profits to ease tensions and protect the referendum.
Rev. Ramadan Chan Liol, general secretary of the Sudan Council of Churches, urged the SPLM and NCP to agree on how they will split the oil wealth ahead of the 2011 popular consultation on self-determination.Rev. Chan told ENI News in Nairobi that the national government depended on the oil from the south for its operations and it would be difficult to just let the oil go.
Rev. Chang explained the Sudan Council of Churches urged the two parties to agree on the share of oil revenue in the post-referendum period to keep the peace.
