Operations for patients suffering from eye cataract will start on Monday at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Mapuordit, in Lakes State.

Contrary to what Good News Radio reported earlier, patients for eye surgery pay a fee 25 Sudanese Pounds.

Rosario Iannetti, Medical Director of Mary Immaculate Hospital, said in an e-mail that 30 patients were admitted at the hospital and are ready for the operations that begin on Monday.

Dr. Iannetti added that another 30 patients would arrive on Sunday from Yirol, Adior, Bunagok and Tali.

The medical director revealed that there was room for another 20 applicants and the last day for registration is Wednesday.

Eye cataract is a condition typified by the clouding of the natural lens of the eye and patients not see things clearly, both close by and far away.

The surgery is sponsored by an NGO from Austria called “Light for the World”.
